Prevent Weight Gain as You Quit Smoking

Congratulations to you for deciding to quit smoking! It is yet the start of a new challenge especially that you are worried about the possible weight gain effect associated with quitting smoking. It is not uncommon to gain extra pounds when quitting smoking because you may tend to divert to craving food as a replacement for smoking. But there are those who don’t really experience this withdrawal effect given the right diversion and healthy practices. It is simply being careful with the food you eat and taking the enough amount of exercise. Aside from keeping you full, eating a lot of fruits and vegetables have high antioxidant properties that help in the detoxification of your body and helping in the recovery from the effects of smoking.

It is a must to cut on salt and sugar in your diet because food containing high amounts of these substances are the major causes of weight gain. It is better to fill up your diet with healthy fats such as avocados and olive oil for weight reduction and to keep you full for a longer period for you to avoid cravings. If you can’t help taking snacks, then purchase healthy snacks such as granola, fresh-popped popcorn, nuts, fruits, vegetables, or sugar-free candy. For example, instead o eating ice cream, cake, burger or french fries, divert to fruits, celery, carrot sticks, fruit or vegetable salad with healthy sauce. Eat six small meals a day instead of three large meals for an effective weight control method after quitting smoking. Instead of returning back to one or two stick per day, it is best to use vape with e-juice if you need a nicotine fix after eating. Do not skip your early morning breakfast because it will only make you more hungry throughout the day which will allow you to eat more. Eating early breakfast helps you fill up your energy requirements throughout the day so you are alert and energized.

Make sure that you are adequately hydrated so watch what you drink to ensure that you are not taking too much sugar. You need to drink water when you are hungry, at least eight glasses per day, to keep you full and prevent cravings. Instead of smoking, chew gum because it is safer and it gives distraction to your mouth. Take a nicotine chewing gum to alleviate any discomfort from withdrawal symptoms. Exercise also plays an important role in weight loss by walking, stretching or jogging twenty minutes a day.
